WHAT ARE THE POLICIES FOR CELL PHONES AT CAMPS ACROSS THE COUNTRY??

I'm not sure if we have a written policy that targets cell phones specfically, we do stress that electronic devices (gamesboys, stereos, walkmans, etc..) are not allowed. Time to add a new category!

Cell phones are definately off limits in fact I don't know of any camps that do permit them. A compremise to ruling them out could be to give them to a leader and can use it when they want, but under supervision.

Kids can't have them when they are in camp. Staff can only use them during their time off. If I see them during the day I take them!

Our campers are not allowed to have cell phones. Our staff carries them because last year that is how they communicated with me. This year we are getting radios.

Our campers are not allowed to use their cellphones while at camp. They are at camp to participate in the here and now not the there and now. If we find a camper using a cell phone for texting or calling we take it away and lock it up in the camp office or the counselor keeps it until the end of session.
It is clearly stated in our camper covenant what the policy on cell phones and electronics are at camp.
The only exception for use of a cell phone is as an alarm in the morning or during rest time. In this situation the cabin counselor can return the phone in the evening and retreive it again in the morning.
Hope this is helpful
