Has there ever been a topic on this board that has gotten to 200 or more replies? Just wondering and I don't have the time or patience to search through the previous pages.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/20/03 12:40 AM
I was thinking a similar thing. There's some form of notation for a topic that's been closed...so I wonder if that's a result of getting too many replies.

Why don't we try it...how about a roll call where we ask everyone a different question every couple of days?

I'll start - how old is everyone? I am 21.

What's with everyone saying their are on their next birthday? If you are 15, you will obviously be turning 16.

Me, I'll be 25 in August 2006.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/20/03 03:39 AM
I'll be 18 on August 18th. To reply to Canuck, we like to show that we're close to our next birthday (at least that's why I'd say it).

I'm 21. And just to add to everyone else's, I'll be 22 in July. Got to love camp birthdays.

LOL!!! Nice move Canuck. We're still quite a ways away from 200, the topics within the topic will have to change a few times to get there. I literally did laugh out loud when I saw the route this topic had taken. Funny stuff.

FYI, I'm 26. My birthday is November 30th, 1976 (rock on bicentennial year!). When is your birthday?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/20/03 08:01 AM
If we get sick of ages and birthdays, I want to know what everyone's hobbies are!!! I have been thinking of starting that as a thread for a while. What do y'all do when you're NOT at camp, to stay sane?

And my birthday is in October, no camp birthday for me.

Alright, I may get in lots of trouble for suggesting this very camp inappropriate game, but what the hell.

One person names three people. You then have to pick one person to KILL, one to MARRY, and one to SHAG. There can be no ties; but you may mention if one person ends up in a category by default.

So here goes:

Kill, Marry, Shag:
President Bush, Prime Minister Blair, Joan Rivers

My b-day is April 3. My hobbies when not at camp so I don't go crazy: I love being crafty. I made huge sign for camp, a board of quotes to hang in my cabin, and now I am making a fleece blanket and putitng felt campy patches on it that I made. Random word game: Boogers..... Nose
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/20/03 04:46 PM
I want a camp birthday!!! mine is June 22, yet camp doesn't start till june 24!!! But last year I got to go to first aid and cpr training at camp for staff members who didn't have it yet.

Hmmm... my hobbies.... music (I play the flute and guitar and love to sing), dance, read... I guess I'm not really all that exciting.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/20/03 04:48 PM
I'm currently 21, but I'll be 22 in May... It gets confusing around this time to tell people how old you are, like on little surveys... I'm also graduating next month, 5 days after my birthday... so I am also confused on little surveys about putting if I have a college degree or not... I'm so close, not much educationally is going to change in me between now and May.. sigh
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/20/03 04:56 PM
My Hobbies when not at... well I love sports, I run and weightlift during the winter and spring. During the fall and winter I also play soccer and basketball... all for fun, not competitively really... I've got a lot of school work finishing my sophmore year of high school. School activites that I'm involved in, clubs and football and basketball games. That keeps me pretty busy in the off season.

The age thing is pretty funny (I'm 27). Regardless of your age, be prepared to have every camper think that you are twice your age. When dealing with the younger campers, they will always think that you are in your 30's oe 40's.

Awesome! I used to be jealous of everyone, because my birthday was between camp and school, but now I'm so much happier that I'm staff and my birthday's at camp. Once it was on the staff banquet... extra special. Camp birthdays rock because it's the one place where people don't mind if you run around yelling it's your birthday all day. At school that would be a little disrupting, but at camp who cares?

Random word in response to "yum" (AGAIN): yuck

Here's another survey to keep the post rolling: What's your all time favorite movie? mine is tied between When Harry Met Sally, and Moulin Rouge (i like chick flicks hehe)
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/20/03 09:12 PM
Speaking of movies, here is my recomendation for A Mighty Wind. It is a mock documentary (like Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show), but its pertinant here because it makes fun of folk music. It gets in a good dig at Peter, Paul and Mary, and I'm sure that most camps sing a song or two of theirs.

camper, is there any sort of journalism at your camp? I tried to set up a program for a camp newspaper at a camp I used to work at, and I might be trying again this summer. I've always been a big newspaper person, I was an editor at the paper at my university, etc.

And I didn't answer my own question about hobbies: journalism, reading, ROCK CLIMBING, rappelling, hiking, rollerblading, SKIING

We've got two dogs, both were strays that no one claimed ever- one was found walking down a highway in a snow storm, and the other was given to us by friends who couldn't care for her, but couldn't find a home. I love my dogs, I call them my babies! They're both sound asleep right now- it's adorable!

Golyek, you missed the point of the game.

Someone else names three people and you MUST separate them into those three categories.

Here, try: Derek Jeter, Tara Lipinski, Britney Spears

I'm 5' 3 and a half inches just like yoda!! Yes, that half means alot when you're always looking up at people lol! And I don't have any pets.. just an 11 year old brother

I have an idea, we should tell random stories that happened to us in the past few days. Here's mine: I was sitting in the courtyard at school one day last week with my friend for about an hour because it was really nice out. I was wearing a tank top because I figured I might as well try to get a tan. So, when I got home that afternoon I realized that I must have been sitting with one shoulder facing the sun because I was REALLY burned on one shoulder and the other was still pasty white! It's really funny looking

height: 5'8" (I think - something like that)

as for hobbies...
playing on the web, making websites, IRISH dance, making travel arrangements for irish dance competitions (sadly, I think the planning is more fun than the competitions - I get very bored during "feis droughts")
oh, and I'm also co-leader of a Girl Scout troop.
I'm contemplating taking up Highland dancing as well. probably next year when I have a "real" job and my schedule is less chaotic. =)

fave movies: The Sound of Music, Addams Family & Addams Family Values, Practical Magic, The Princess Bride... there's more
fave musicals: Phantom of the Opera, Les Misearables, Scarlet Pimpernel...

I'm 24- birthday on Nov. 20th,
I have 2 doggies - one is Byner.. he's 6 and the best buddy in the world. He's a golden retriever...
The other is Davis, and he's about 2... we rescued him from the APA and he's a lab/golden mix. He LOVES his mommy.

I want to know if anyone has ever heard of a book called "A Void" which was written entirely without the letter "e." I just got it and can't wait to start reading. It amazes me that you could write a sentence, never mind a book without the letter "e." just think... no the, we, she, he, where, there, when, ever, no verbs ending in -er, nothing is better or best, or any other -er or -est.

wow

I'm 5'2 and 3/4ths

Pets... I have two chinchillas (Willie and Chi-Chi (pronounced G-G) (I didn't name Chi-Chi, my friend who owned her first did...her full name is Capizio or something like that...)(They live at home with my parents) And my dearest Fish with No Name (who spent the last two summers with me at camp) swam off to the big fish bowl in the sky about 4 weeks ago, sigh)...

Pets: Dog named Belle (that we rescued as she was on the way to the pound), 3 Arabian Horses. Joey, (thatI have had since the day he came outta his moms womb, Buddy who we rescued from an abusive desert backyard, and Lucy who is related to the Black Stallion. 2 koi fish named Bubba, and Roy, 4 doves that are nameless, we at one time had 7 rabbits but they are now all gone, um... what else do we have? I dunno our house is a zoo as it is.

Random story from last week. I fell during a salchow in skating practice and my but landed on the back point of my blade... so now I have a big ole bruise on one cheek and it hurts to sit down... LOL I am just glad I didn't have to go to the ER with an extra hole in my Bum !! lol

Thanks... now not only am I daydreaming about camp, I'm daydreaming about my skating days too... I would give anything to be able to skate again. Okay, so not to be misleading... I am not saying i was ever a terrific skater.. just that I took lessons for a few years, and worked at an ice skating rink no matter where i was... home or school. got lots of ice time that way! And I miss it

6/10ths of the way there! We've had literrally hundredsof animals through our house, everything in your basic petstore except sugar gliders and kittens. Other than that, all the small mammals, most birds-softbills and parrots, lots of fish, and lizards, snakes, and turtles. and of course dogs. most of those have bred to, making life pretty interesting. Anyways, its pretty quiet now, I have a fish named Hershey, a box turtle named Mikey, and my beloved Lab-mix, Julia. At home theres a basset hound, a lhasa, a budgie, a lori, and some fish. I'm working for a breeder right now (mostly training-obedience, socialization, and conformation) in exchange for a lab pup. Soon! I can't wait. I love critters. Figuires I'm EQ, huh?

I have two dogs, a cocker spaniel named cassie and a cocka-poo (half cocker spaniel half poodle) named kiwi. I love dogs, I'm going to have like 20 when I get older. I'm a real animal lover I guess, I've worked at a pet store and a vet's office, and I've always known I was going to either work with children or animals when I got older.

And I'm 5 foot 5 and 1/2.

CourtLeigh, what day is your birthday? I'll be 21 on October 3.

And my pet in San Diego is a !#&^%&^y cat named (appropriately) Trouble. Does anyone want a cat? At my parents' house I have a dog named Romeo, an English springer spaniel, and he's the coolest dog on earth.

Oh, and I saw your post earlier...about the guy. Here is my advice. BE FRIENDS FIRST. some people don't agree with me on this one, but it is a standard I hold strictly to and I can honestly say that all of my relationships that have ended have never been really negative...all the guys and I are still friends. It seems to work for me everytime. I hope it helps you out. good luck! Those first steps in a relationship are the most fun and exciting times!!

Even Ben & Jerry's pints remind me of camp! Ha, we keep them in the freezer in the staff lounge. My fav flavor if "Half Baked". What's everyone's favorite Ben & Jerry's flava?

Oh and I, too, am in the 5' 3 and 1/2" club! Yeah us! That half is important because 5'4" is the average woman; so with the 1/2 we can round up to 5'4"!! Not that I wanna be average, but I don't like being confused with campers either!

We defintiely used to eat alot of ben and jerry's at camp too!! My favorite flavor is... ok actually it's tied between Phish Food and Cherry Garcia. I hope your day gets better

Yoda, I wouldn't want to be near any building or in a buidling. I'm talking about being in the middle of a super cushiony field of grass with nothing that can fall on top of me.

1) it's a bumpy ride 2) depending on the magnitude, the ground can hurt you, if it throws clumps of dirt around or something and 3) it's just a very unsettling experience to have the gournd, the nice solid taken for granted ground be suddenly very unsolid and moving! It's actually pretty scary- i wouldn't wish it on anyone.

something I would like to see that I haven't seen... The It's a Small World ride at Walt Disney World, I am going on vacation to WDW mid May and that was one ride I didn't manage to make it on the only other time I was there, and if I saw it that would mean I was on vacation already.

my middle name is kind of weird, it would take a bit of explanation, but if someone really wants to know I will share.

I went to a girls' camp 2 years ago and they split us into teams alphabetically by our middle names and seriously about half the camp were either Louises or Janes. Strange!

Last summer I had my girls sleep outside one night (which we dont usually do)... I was just going to bed, wondering if it had been worth the trouble (it had been a really hectic day) when some of the girls saw a shooting star, and it was the first one that one of them had ever seen, and she was thrilled, and so then I was too... But I swear that usually if somebody says "hey there's a shooting star" the next comment to be heard 99% of the time is "oh, you missed it". But good luck Courtney!

Something I've always wanted to see.... perhaps my grandma. She passed away when my mother was in highschool, but all my aunts tell me that she and I were a lot alike. So I wish I could meet her.

Fav. Ben and Jerrys- unfortunetly, I don't think I've ever had Ben and Jerry's. I've had plenty of other types- just our family doesn't buy ice cream that much. And when we do- it's Vanilla (BORING!). But oh well, what can one do when they don't have a car to go buy it themselves.

WOW!! I can;t believe some of you guys have never seen the ocean or snow! That's just crazy to me, because it snowed feet upon feet upon feet here this winter, and I live about 1/2 hour away from the ocean. Geez, the things you take for granted huh?

Thing I've wanted to see: nothing in particular, but I've always wanted to go to Italy.

My middle name is Harding.

Here's a question: do any of ya'll watch american idol? (I'm obsessed) if you do, who should win?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/22/03 02:07 PM
My mom's birthday is Oct 11th, and my cousin is getting married on Oct 11th, so I'll be in California... I'll actually be on a cruise (crossing fingers) from the end of Sept into October.

And my best friend is getting married in August... Kind of a bummer cause he was my back-up... REALLY reminds me of the movie... "My Best Friends Wedding." It's okay cause I've got another back-up lined up.

Anyone ever notice how weddings seem to happen in bunches? I had one a year (yes I've been a bridesmaid 3 times) for 3 years.. and then none for a couple years.. here we go again...

and I really want to go to Australia- partially cause I've always wanted to go there, and partially cause *someday* that's where my boyfriend and I want to go for our honeymoon... and that would mean we'd have to be married first

Wilderness Mama- you listed 'elijah wood stalking' as one of your hobbies...I'm curious- please enlighten me?

I'm a giant...6 ft!! (good for b-ball/v-ball, less fun when meeting guys..)

Thing that I wanted to see for ages...the Chinese Wall..finally got to see it last Easter- strenuous hikes but so many amazing views!!

(sorry I wanted to respond to several questions here)

I'm 21 and gonna be hitting camp for my 6th year this summer

my parents are slightly different. So they decided that the middle names of my brother and sister and myself would have to do with the different pathways of the truth. My middle name is Seeker, which means Sees the truth, my brothers is Walker, which means walks in the truth, and my sisters is Speakur which means speaks the truth. Kind of weird, but unique. I didn't like it when I was younger but I do know, it just takes explaining when people ask.

ANd I've never had ben and jerry's ice cream before. I'm not sure if you can get it in canada... so next time I'm in the US (may- I'm going to chicago!) I will try and find some.

Oh, oh, oh I thought of a new question!

What languages does everyone speak?

Besides English (duh) I speak French and I know some ASL.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/22/03 07:18 PM
I'm in the boat with you Lois but with alittle variation. I obviously speak English, I know some French ( like if you drop me in the middle of France, I'd be ok ) and I know ASL.

FYI, my middle name is Elizabeth, I am 19, turning 20 at camp and heres my question...

What kind of food do you LOOOOOOVE but EVERYONE thinks your weird for eating?

My answer? EASY CHEESE AND RITZ CRACKERS!

Yes I eat cheese out of a can.

I actually like some kinds of baby food-- mostly the fruits. i think that might make me wierd.

But here's my thought from left field. Usually every once in a while the board gets quiet, and most of us don't contribute too much... anyone else notice that this topic (which when you figure in that this is a CAMP message board-isn't too substantial) is 'hoppin'? As well as the rest of the board. Maybe that's the secret... keep the substantial as well as the wacky! They help each other!

I speak english of course, and then Spanish pretty well. My nickname is Mel, real original, just a shortened version of my full name, Melanie. I have never had Ben and Jerry's before. Not a big ice cream person. Here's a question, whats everybody's major in college? I'm an elementary education major.

Im at college in Scotland so we dont really do the whole major/minor thing. In 1st and 2nd year we do 3 subjects and choose in 3rd year what we want to keep on to honours level. I'm doing modern history, social anthropology and moral philosophy (possibly the most random subject in the world).

I watch American Idol every once in a while, and my personal favorite is Ruben. He's huge!!!! My least favorite is Clay, his voice sounds good, but he makes the funkiest facial expressions while he sings.

I really can't believe how this topic has taken off. I was just curious ! I think this has also been a great "get to know you" topic. We really have learned a lot about each other. It's been fun.

Who's going to get #200?

Im in 1st year at St Andrews. Anthropology is really weird right now but ive heard it gets better. We've just had the worst, most monotone lecturer for the last few weeks about magical speech. But we had a really cool lecturer last semester who looked like u know that alien in Men in Black that lands and takes over ppl's bodies. Yeah well it was pretty much like that.

The ground can crack open and you could fall in.. I have heard of cars falling into cracks ... or like the Bay Bridge in SF. Also the 7.1 was so strong that as we were trying to get outside it was to hard to walk we were getting tossed into walls as we ran down the hallway for outside... In a period of 48 hours we had a. 6.5, 6.6, and a 7.1 which were all jerking earthquakes which shake back and forth, then there are earthquakes that are more like rolling kind of like being on a waterbed when someone is squirming around. Anyway no matter where you are the strong earth quakes are pretty scary.

I speak a little Spanish, but I'm not really fluent. I can get by with people who kinda sorta know English though. It's probably the most useful language to speak here in Texas (besides English).
I haven't eaten much Ben & Jerry's...they are pretty expensive here. I usually stick with Blue Bell! Mmmm...their chocolate Moo-linium Crunch is really good, as is Triple Chocolate and several other flavors.

Okay new discussion for posts

Whats the weirdest animal you have ever seen?
For me it would have to be a Neutria.... they are half RAT half Beaver and the live on the rivers in Oregon and in the swamps in the south.. They look just like the ROUS's in the Princess Bride!! They are so freaky!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/23/03 03:15 AM
WOW! Honestly, I didn't think it would happen, but when folks on this board set their mind on a goal, they get it done! Well done everybody! I do believe we've just made ACA Bulletin Board history!

It certainly wasn't my intent to get 200 replies, actually, Canuck got the ball rolling. Well, we got 225 in only a few days, I think 300 is definitely within in reach. Some of this stuff is hilarious and its cool to learn some somewhat personal information about people. We're really getting to know each other and I think that's great.

The weirdest animal I've ever seen...probably a Sea Cucumber (they'll spew out their intestines when scared and they have little fish living in their butts).

haha catkel, i know a lot of crap goes on on the show and thats good b/c i am definitely looking to be in a sorority when i get to college. i know a lot about aephi and sdt b/c i have friends in them and it sounds like its the coolest thing ever. and yea the sisters are definitely meaner than the pledges on the show- except maggie she's a little rambunctious. lol

and whoever else has the middle name lynn, rock on! its such a popular middle name.

I was just wondering...why do people join frats and sororities? What I see on MTV and what I saw at the college I attended kind of turned me off to that lifestyle. I think it's the whole concept of having to "try out" to be accepted as a family member (brother/sister). It's so exclusionary, and judgemental. At least the ones that I've seen have been like that.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/24/03 03:42 AM
I don't know Golyek, and I have often wondered the same thing. The whole thing just seems kind of dumb to me, but to each his own.
I had a bad experience with sororities. I had a group of friends who all pledged my freshmen year in college. Now in the fall, we hung out, did stuff together, and it was great. In the spring, when they started to pledge, suddenly they didn't have time for me, their whole lives revolved around sorority functions and their new "sisters". I realize not everyone has this experience and maybe some people are better at balancing out their lives...it just seems like an awful lot of people in sororities and fraternities are only interested in their own little exclusive group. Plus so many of them (I know, not ALL, but a lot) do nothing more than drink and party...a big turn off for me.

The Greek System is different on every college campus. ANd a lot of times it has nothing to do this the size of the college or university. What you see on MTV isn't the full picture. First of all, they air all the "drama" that goes on. The producers create story lines that will be interesting for the audience and get the highest ratings. Second, that is just one sorority chapter and one fraternity chapter out of the many thousands of chapters across America and in other nations. Third, both Delta Xi Omega and Sigma Chi Omega are local chapters. This allows them to get away with a lot more hazing than National Chapters.

I love my sorority Alpha Xi Delta which I pledged in the fall 2001, as well as the greek system at Auburn University (my college.) I have never once felt jusdged by other members of my sorority or anyone else outside my sorority for that matter. Everyone I met in all the other 14 sororities during recruitment was very nice and polite to me. I wasn't very involved in high school and I didn't have any close friends. But when I got my Bid last fall and pledged, I was instantly accepted and now I have over 100 friends, many very close to me.

I don't deny many people have had bad experiences with Greek organizations, I'm jsut saying what you see on TV isn't the full picture, and that my experiences have been the best of my life.

I'm with him on this one. I attended a Uniersity that has a very large "greek" population and they are all over the place. Let me just say of all the people I have meant they have fit all the stereotypes I have heard

YAY WE DID IT!

My major is political science and my minor is public service with a focus in education.

And I don't understand the Greek system, it's pretty disgusting at my school, but hey that floats some people's boats. I'm just sick of every time I go to a party I get asked "so what sorority are you in?" I mean, hello, it *IS* possible to be social without joining the "system." Grr.

There is a disproportionate amount of October birthdays on this board! (LIBRAS TAKE OVER THE WORLD!)
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/24/03 06:05 AM
ok, i gotta stick up for greeks here. first my school is pretty small (4,000) and DRY. So, really, the frats are the only ones that throw parties cause they have off campus houses. (ussually the parties are open-anyone can come) (the sororities all have dorm wings-some dumb rule about more than x number of women in one house is a brothel)I pledged SAI in the fall. It did not take up too much time, the sisters are great, and they love everyone in the music department equally from what i've seen. (its a proff/social music frat) i just saw that MTV show tonight, me and one of the sisters sat there and were horrified. my campus has ZERO tolerance for hazing. i mean, we were afraid to interview our MITs (members-in-training, apparently pledge is demeaning)because we were afraid THAT was hazing! by interview, i mean a pretty damn proff type thing. the stuff on mtv would never, ever fly on our campus. I enjoy it, i still have lots of time for my old friends, and have met new people to boot. I wouldn't ever join a strictly social sorrority i don't think, but i have friends that have and for most of them it hasn't affected a thing. I too know people who have deactivated from their frats for many reasons, but most folks seem happy with our system. Not all systems are as awful as tv, some are actually pretty decent.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/24/03 11:36 AM
I didn;t see the MTV show cos we have MTV Europe (so I'll probably see it in 6 months time !! ), but we have sororities over here as well and a similar "initiation" system. Pledges are called 'zeros' and they go on a weekend where basically they're humiliated. There was an incident where a student died cos of alcohol poisoning so the initiation isn't allowed to involve drinking anymore. Some of my friends did it and I've heard sooo many gross and horrible stories. My sister was humiliated so badly....and my cousin had to lick custard out of a toilet bowl. UGh!

In the end they're all happy they did it though, cos all the 'zeros' bond really well the first week and after initiation all the older students who were mean before are really nice. I think it's pretty two-faced and wouldn't personally want to go through such an awful process.

I went to a big university, Michigan State University, I was in a sorority. The sorority on Sorority Life is NOT an accurate portrayal of sorority life in general. They are mean to those girls. I liked being in a sorority. My school was so big it did not really matter if you were greek or not, there were so many things to get involved in. I did not join till my sophmore year, I am glad I waited. I always had more then one group of friends that way, different people to be around. Still to this day I take a trip once a year with my sorority sisters. It was a good expereice. They are not as bad as they are made out to be on MTV, although I love the show!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/24/03 05:00 PM
You know I just don't understand sorities. They say that a soroity is a great way to make friends, but you have to pay to be in one. Why should I pay someone to make friends?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/24/03 05:02 PM
nebit- where are you? At my school in Virginia, we were not allowed to have a guy stay over for more than 3 out of 7 nights or it would be considered a brothel. Wierd.

Speaking of Sororities... I went to an all womens school, only 900 of us undergrads. We did not have any sororities, however I feel like I spent 4 years at camp. It was so fun... lots of traditions and fun stuff. At times it seemed like we were one huge sorority. We had "Ring Night" which was actually a 3 day process where you "earn" your class ring. It involves sophomores, juniors and seniors, and although hazing is not allowed, we certainly toe the line. I could go into more details if anyone is interested... The most important part is that it is a bonding experience... and I will never forget my Ring Sisters!

I definitely spend my time eating REAL food. And cruising around town with my friends in the pimp-mobile we call the camp van! (haha just joking). But really, Wal Mart is by far the best place to go

Walmart rocks!!!!! I love that place, and I too get real food. I also go see all the sights and go outlet shopping with other people from camp. On my days off, I go to my sisters house and hang out since I live in Florida and my camp is in New Hampshire so I can't go home, going to my sister's, who lives in Maine, house is the next best thing.

What would a camp counselor do with out Wally World ??
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/27/03 03:09 AM
My time off during camp I really love going out to eat, doing laundry and having a beer or two. I just LOVE chillin' on time off. I also like getting back to camp at a decent hour, I'm usually back around midnight.

When I'm not at camp, during my time off I enjoy playing disc golf, going to see movies and on Thursday nights watching Survivor. Did you folks know that Christy (the woman that is deaf) is from Colorado and she is involved in camping as she works for a youth adventure program. I think that's awesome and I'm really rooting for her.

Today it was in the seventies here in Denver and I played 72 holes of disc golf. It was such a great Saturday!

I don' t know but I am so glad I will never have to worry about that. Wal-mart is by far the best place to go when you just want to get away from camp for awhile and they have such great deals.

I've got a couple of questions for you.

1. Do you still play with toys?

2. Do you still watch cartoons (other than the Simpsons and King of the Hill)?

If so, why do you continue to do so as an adult. If not, why have you stopped? Just wondering.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/27/03 06:01 PM
1.) Yes
2.) Yes

I think playing with toys and watching cartoons keeps you young. PLus it lets you know what kids are into so that you know what they are talking about when the keep drawing a yellow sponge in square pants for all their "kid writing" entires (I am working in a kindergarten right now).
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/27/03 06:50 PM
Yeah, I definitely still watch cartoons! I agree with Yoda that it's a great way to keep up on what kids are going to be talking about. And, on a somewhat related note, I still sleep with a stuffed animal, does anyone else?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/27/03 09:23 PM
Last year we had like 2 hours off twice a day (since we didn't have campers). I spent time cleaning my bunk- I always managed to ge it so dirty! Sometimes I would head down to the creek to talk with some people, I did some painting towards the end of the summer and other arts and crafts. Sometimes we hung out in the staff lounge, we went swimming sometimes too. We were 15 so we couldn't leave camp... but we managed to have quite a bit of fun... oh yes, and we had watefights. We also sat and just talked outside our cabin somedays- it was relaxing.

I sleep with a stuffie only when I'm taking naps. When I'm going to bed at night I don't.

lol, I sleep with my bear everynight. If I can't find him, I'll wake up everyone till i can. hmmm, when my lil sis was a cit in my cabin, she gave my bear to a homesick kid while i was helpin another kid-I was going to kill her, but thankfully the kid believed me when i told her ihad an even cooler critter for her to sleep with. what can i say, I'm attached. I also have a special pillow-one of those little camp pillows, but i'm not as crazy about that.

lets see....
Toys! heck yes. I LOVE toys. plus, it keeps you young. (I'm still searching for never neverland )

Cartoons-not so much, i don't have a tv, but if i did i'd prolly watch them.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/28/03 12:42 AM
Oh yeah, I love toys! I stole my boyfriend's old box of lincoln logs to play with!
I watch cartoons sometimes. But more often I end up watching the ones like "The Simpsons" and "South Park" rather than the kiddie ones.
I sleep with two animals and a blanket on my bed, but don't really sleep "with" them. They're just kinda there.

The only difference between men and boys is the expense of their toys.

I also watch Anime (sorta cartoons, but not really for kids) but not Hentai.

I play with toys, puzzles, and games occasionally too (last week I lost in a game of Monopoly). I also like to attempt juggling stuff, and other stuff.

Yeah, I have to defend the Greek system too... I was very much anti-Greek when I came to college, and wouldn't even consider joining a sorority. However, a close friend who was in Kappa Kappa Gamma convinced me to come over to dinner one night, and I was amazed at what I found...

...a house full of friendly, energetic, eclectic, fabulous women who I wanted very much to be a part of. These women were supportive, outgoing, active, and lots of fun. I

I was looking for a way to get more involved on campus, meet more people, and have a more active social life - joining my sorority did all those things. In addition, I have made friends that will last a lifetime, and I have wonderful memories of socials, parties, study snacks, and random nights staying up late just hanging out with my sisters and laughing until my stomach hurts.

So yeah, it's not for everyone, but I highly encourage you to look into it. There is no "typical" sorority or fraternity - they're all different, from school to school, and from house to house. And they can be an amazing addition to your life.

sarry

heres another,
hOribble or hARRRible

And on my nights/days off I usually end up taking staff on a trail ride, or I get into town to do laundry. ALSO, do any of you notice that your bathroom #2's turn color when you are at camp until you are use to the food. I know it's a weird gross question, but we had some Americorps visitors at camp and they asked the same question cause the were all worried about themselves...... does that happen to anyone else with camp food?

What's your least favorite camp song?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/05/03 12:08 AM
My fav. Brady episode is hard to choose I like the measles one and all the Hawaii ones .. all of them crack me up....

Least fav. camp song would have to be our alma matter... no offense but i really don't like the alma matters they are all so slow and cheesy ..
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/05/03 12:15 AM
Well, I cant think of any specific brady bunch episodes off the top of my head, so I'll pass on that question!

My least fav camp song? The Princess Pat!! AHH! It gets REAL old REAL fast.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/05/03 01:01 AM
I can't remember any specific Brady Bunch episodes.
My least fave camp song is The Telephone Song. It keeps repeating and is so annoying after around 2 rounds.

What do you do for fun when you are not in the camp season ?? I.E. the rest of the year..

Nothing, its all school and work for me these days and if not I am too tired so I watch tv and see if anyone has posted on here.

I play disc golf at least 5 days a week, 36 holes each day. I LOVE DISC GOLF!!!!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/06/03 03:27 AM
Okay ya'll, I went to see the movie Holes today!!! It was awesome. Such a good wholesome theme. I loved the whole friendship\sacrifice thing. Not enough of that in the world for kids today. I loved the fact that the kids in the movie learned that life isn't about money, wealth, fame, fortune, or greed, but that it's about family, love, loyalty, devotion, and faith in something other than oneself. I am DEFINITELY a fan.

joe, I finished the book, Holes, and saw the movie last week and I too loved both of them. The movie was exactly as I imagined the book (although I pictured Stanley a little chubbier). I'm definitely going to be reading the book to my campers this summer.

I give the book and the movie a thumbs up!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/06/03 09:59 PM
I loved both .. the only thing I didn't like about the movie is they was they gave the ending away to soon.. Like how you hear Madame Zeroni's voice as he's carry zero... and how they say what zero's real last nameis really early on.....
I liked how in the book the ending was more of a surprise.

Chocolate ice cream :-)

I know how you feel, Yoda... I'm already planning to send care packages to my friends who are going back to camp. Can you find something fun to do during the summer (non-school related!) - maybe take up a new hobby or something?

Do you have to work or can you get away for a couple of weeks maybe stay with a friend or family? When my holiday plans fell through last summer I was really p-ed off but I arranged to stay with a friend who I don't see often for one month. It's good to just get away from home every now and then, and even though you'll still miss camp it'll take your mind off it for a bit? And you'll get to catch up with the person you stay with!!

*Think positive* and hopefully you'll be able to go camp next year? Good luck!

Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/20/03 02:16 AM
Okay, i'll add another question for everyone. How long is your camp season for staff? What about for campers, how long can they stay, how many sessions do you have etc...? My camp is 9 weeks for staff, 8 weeks for campers. Campers come for 2 weeks and we have 4 sessions. Campers can stay 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, or all 8 weeks. We have campers aged 6-15 and its an all-girls camp with a brother camp that's a half-hour away that we meet with twice a session(once at their camp, once at our camp)
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/20/03 03:34 PM
9 weeks for staff, 1 week sessions for the girls
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/20/03 04:26 PM
my camp has:
a week of lifeguard training (optional)
a week of ropes course training (optional)
a week of program staff training
a week of staff training
9 weeks of campers
the campers only stay for a week (sunday - friday); but some of them get to come twice. the age range of our campers is from 4 up to... let's see, the oldest camper i can think of is 60+, but i'm pretty sure we've had them older than that even. does anyone else work at a camp for people with disabilities?

...and since we're apparently trying to make it to 500(!) posts by the start of camp (only 10 more days! OMG! i need to start packing!), here're some more thoughts for us all:
1 how far from home is your camp?
2 how many years have you been camp staff?
3 what's the longest song you sing at camp?
4 what's the one camp story that always makes you a little misty?

1. i'm only 30ish miles from my camp. during the summer, however, it takes over an hour to get there because it's right outside of wisconsin dells. those of you familiar with the area know why. for the rest of you, the dells is one of the biggest tourist towns in the world during the summer. on any given day, the town of 2-3000 will have over a million people in it, and none of them seem to know what a crosswalk is!
2. this will be my... let's see... 5th summer at camp. spent 3 years as a counselor, last summer as "the arts and crafts chick", and this summer will be head counselor.
3. longest camp song... it's either "the green grass grows all around" song - we've come up with about 22 verses for it now; or the jelly bean song. we once filled a 45 minute tractor ride with just that song, it all depends on how many kinds of beans people can remember on a given day.
4. aside from the sad stuff that would make anyone feel blue (campers/staff passing away), there's one happy story that always makes me "misty": on our ropes course, we have an element called the travine - kind of like a zip line, but it goes across this big ravine out in the middle of the woods and you get to go back and forth a few times if you want to. anyway, working with people with disabilites, it can sometimes be difficult to gauge the whole "challenge by choice" thing -they can't always tell us what they're feeling. but, one day while we were out there, we got one of the guys into the helmet, and then into the harness, and on the static, and then finally got him beanered onto the cable. just as we were about to take the static off, he indicated he didn't want to do it anymore, so we unhooked him, and he started running all over shouting "eric champion!" awwwwwwwwww...
...sorry for the insanely long post...
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/20/03 06:02 PM
1.) My camp is way far away from my house. It's 1400 miles away. I live in Florida and my camp is in New Hampshire.
2.)this will be my third summer on staff, never went as a camper, and I am an arts and crafts/cabin counselor.
3.)The longest song is the telephone song and it has to be the most annoying song as well, and then the divisional songs are also really long
4.) My misty story isn't really a story but a song, "The Circle Game" always makes me misty.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/20/03 06:21 PM
1 about a 40 minute drive.
2 this will be my second year on staff
3 noahs ark song in the morning.
4 hmmm.... I can't really think of any stories, but certain songs make me cry.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/20/03 08:03 PM
1. about 35 minute drive on a good day- not in rush hour.
2. This will be my second year as staff- but my first summer with campers of my own (kinda- I'm a JC).
3. The longest song- I'm not sure, I'll have to think about that one.
4. Camp story that makes me misty eyed- I remember the first time I felt like a counselor. It was during the off season and I worked for a weekend- and it was my first time living in the cabin with kids. Well I was the arts and crafts instructor- and we were window painting for the activity. I gave the kids some paint- and then I was helping some other kids start bracelets. When I turned around- they wrote my name on the window and wrote underneath it- Cabin C rocks! And it was the first time campers had ever considered me a counselor. :-D That made me smile...

When was the last time you were genuinely scared for your life and what scared you?

I think the last time I was that scared was when I bungee jumped about 2 years ago. I really thought I was going to die.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/22/03 01:43 PM
I think the last time i was genuinely scared for my life was on the weekend when i was driving with my best friend. she forgot to do a shoulder check when she changed lanes and another car was in her blind spot. we were going pretty fast and were about a centmeter away from hitting the car. I saw everything. and since i was on the passenger side, if there had been an accident i would have been flatened. it was scary stuff.

i have another question to keep the post going. if you could change one thing about your camp what would it be? For me i think it would be the price. I think all kids should be able to go to great camps and not have to pay $1000 a week.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/25/03 12:03 AM
$1000 a week, I hope u are exaggerating because kids shouldn't have to pay that much to go to camp. Anyway, lets keep this post going we have to get to 500 posts or above.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/25/03 12:06 AM
yay! I just realized that I finally made it to my 50th post.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/25/03 12:17 AM
Wow, kids at my camp pay between $0 and $50 for a week at camp ($0 when they get camperships).

Last time I was scared for my life:
About two hours ago when I was hanging headfirst over a sloping ledge trying to take down a climbing anchor.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/25/03 02:14 AM
nope, i'm not exaggerating at all. A two week session costs $1,998. On top of that there are a bunch of extras the kids have to pay for. it's very expensive. I remember being a camper and going to camp for $100 a week and having the time of my life. I have no idea why this camp costs 10 times more.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/25/03 02:17 AM
sad but true that my camp costs 7500 dollars.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/25/03 03:53 AM
wow!! mine costs about $300 a week.. so if on was to come all 6 weeks it would be around $1800.. some are a little more than 300.. depends on what program you chose.. basic programs are less, and sailing, overnights.. are more
still its not as expensive as other camps..
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/25/03 06:28 AM
The difference in cost, from what I can tell, is usually wide between not-for-profit camps and for-profit camps. Non-profits have an external organization (YMCA, Easter Seals, Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Club, etc.) paying their staff and owners, while for-profit staff have to be paid by the camp itself. For example, I am on the payroll of the B&GCA, not on the payroll of "Camp Mendocino." Also, for-profits tend to offer more extensive facilities, things we don't really think about as costing a lot to build and maintain. Tennis courts are freakin' expensive, so are swimming pools!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/25/03 01:43 PM
do any of you out there have camp mascots? what are they, and why were they chosen?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/25/03 03:19 PM
Well, I guess that my camp's mascot is sort of a lion because it is a lions camp.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/26/03 09:35 PM
I have no idea, i've never been to this camp before :-) I just thought I'd add in my 2 cents to help us reach 500 :-D
So......i'll pose a question to help spur us along the way......its hard to not repeat questions or question-types....
*hmmmm, whats one thing that you suprised you the most about working at camp that you never expected :-) (for example, how many uses there are for duct tape)
*Or maybe, the one most helpful piece of advice you could give another counselor (for example, always look inside your shoes before you put them on)
*or one never (or hardly) fails tip or trick when it comes to campers.

Sorry if they go redundent to other posts, i was trying to think off-the-wall

keep posting everyone!!

Probably the biggest thing i learnt was that one summer can change your life and that you never relize how tired you are until you see your own bed again
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/27/03 04:15 AM
AHHHHHH!!! Too many questions to answer!!! Alright, i'll answer the ones that are a) easiest and b) that I remember!!!

If i could change anything about my camp, I'd make us have a lake and be more like a traditional 8-week summer camp.

I don't think I've ever really been scared for my life... I'm been scared, yes, but not for my life... except when I'm in the car w/ *certain* people...

Our camp mascot is Rusty the Raccoon... dunno why he's our mascot.

Top 3 biggest things I learned in a summer 1)goodbyes are the hardest things I'll ever go through 2) I am more than I thought I was 3) I need camp.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/27/03 06:48 AM
I don't know what i'd chance since i've never been there yet.

I've never been scared for my life... wait last night when i ran a red light scary.

I have no idea what our camp mascot is

Top 3 biggest things I learned in a summer ummm that you really can loose 15 pounds at summer camp lol.. that you really do make life long friendships at camp ( wav you court) and that summer camp does open kids eyes to oppturnities.

my middle name is louise and so is my best friends and a ton of other people. It's weird that it's such a popular middle name. And about ben & jerry's ice cream they have it in canada but a pint is $6 too much for me. (if this makes no sense just check this thread)

crap, I was only # 360.. oops I guess I can't count
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/28/03 08:28 PM
what number am i?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/28/03 08:29 PM
I'm 18! 19 in less than a month (woo hoo! drinking age is 19 here in ontario).

Question. How many people are taking recreation in college? I've been to accept to all the schools I applied for rec. and the one I'm going to is specifically outdoor rec.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/28/03 09:28 PM
Pas moi. I am a political science major and a public service minor with a focus in education. I go to the much revered "University of California." The UC Regents would rather die than allow a major with PRACTICAL application in the world. Yippy.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/29/03 02:55 AM
i'm under 18...i'll be 16 at the end of the summer!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/30/03 03:47 PM
I am 15...the youngest one here.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/31/03 04:43 PM
*bumping because camp season doesn't start for me until June 20th*

So this still counts :-p ;-)

I'm 20 (wow I almost wrote 19) and a Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation major (no outdoor rec at my school ) but hey, I'm looking at Outdoor Rec or Rec for my Master's. Anyone know of schools with a good Master's program?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/01/03 02:30 AM
i'm 20! i'll be 21 after i get home from camp... in september.

legal here in canada... not in CT where i'll be soon. oh well!

i'm 27
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/01/03 05:47 PM
Well- Camp doesn't start for me until July 13th... maybe earlier... but who knows. I can not wait to go. I thought I'd help the 500 post thing. New Question:

-What is your favorite dance song at camp!? I think mine would be- "I Want You To Want Me" by Letters to Cleo.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/01/03 06:17 PM
My favorite camp dance song is Cover Girl by the new kids on the block!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/02/03 11:24 AM
American Pie all the way :-)
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/02/03 02:18 PM
Mine would have to be "I Will Survive" by Ms. Gloria Gaynor. I have fond fond memories of sweeping the dining hall with the CITs while belting out that little ballad... I love that song!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/02/03 02:51 PM
My fave dance song would have to be "cotton-eyed joe" have no clue why, just alot of fun to do with my campers
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/02/03 08:17 PM
hmmm favorite camp dance song......probably YMCA, just because every kid gets involved with it even if their shy about dancing.

heres another question to keep this thread going: What's the coolest activity or program you do at your camp or have seen another camp do? Mine would be when i was younger i went to this camp where for a week you dressed up in clothes from the 1800's and spent each day on a historic settlement behind the ropes where the tourists weren't allowed to go. You cooked food, played games, went to the school in the village. It was amazing
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/03/03 12:24 AM
My fave activity at camp is a tie between Christmas in July and Carnival. They are 2 of the many special days we have during the summer but i think i like them the most. There are so many traditions that go along with Christmas in July and Carnival is just so much fun.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/03/03 03:41 AM
obviously for those who have been on here for awhile, i would have to say that my camp's best event is our color war. its the most amazing thing, so traditional, so fun, and so emotional.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/03/03 05:44 PM
The best camp activity would be the closing night campfires. Everyone walks in starting with the oldest campers who walk all the way around the ring and take spots in the back and so on by age until the youngest campers are last seated. This is done in silence- just the sounds of nature. Then we sing our camp songs, give out awards, and do the memory stick program. We finish by singing the camp song everyone with their arms around one another- aww.... I miss it so much! When do I leave for camp again!?

Ok your from canada right? so what camp was this. Have you ever heard of upper canada village. It's like 45 minutes away from me and they have that type of program for summer camp. I'm thinking about appling for the counselor position next year.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/04/03 12:16 AM
i have heard of upper canada village! When we were in ontarion i really wanted to go but there was no time. The camp was at King's Landing in Fredricton. It's a loyalist village. The program was called visiting cousins, we as campers were supposed to the "cousins" visiting the "families" in the houses. It was so much fun, i loved every bit of it. It's a lot smaller than upper canada village, but it's amazing. You definiteley should be a counselor at upper canada village next summer. It's kind of the best of both worlds. It's a real job because your're involved with tourism and a government funded organization, but you are also a camp counselor at the same time!

That's so cool. I love stuff like that. I'm always visiting upper canada village. I went to fort loiusberg (sp?) out east, I'm not sure what province, I think new brunswick but I'm not sure.

At upper canada the campers dress up and are stationed at different houses doing different things. They also go to school. A couple of my friends did it, I never got the chance. oh well.

sparklelicious- Fort Louisburg is in Nova Scotia, up in good old cape breton. I've been there a few times, it's alot different then most historic villages but still really cool.

I saw that this post was pretty far down and I thought that I would move it up. I think that a new question would help to keep this going but I can't think of one.

Here's one.

Excited yet?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/05/03 04:03 PM
OF COURSE I AM EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO GET HERE
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/05/03 05:45 PM
I'm 26, married and still going to camp for two weeks.

I have two favorite camp dance songs. One is "Who's in the House" because we have a little dance we do to it that the whole camp knows. Then "40 days" because we all have so much fun getting "stuck in the mud" and then jumping for the chorus.

Best activity.... I teach circus. That means I teach trapeze, mexican cloud swing, and spanish web (all things in the air) it's a blast!

My camp's colors are gray and green. Odd numbered cabins are on the gray team, even numbered cabins are on the green team.

I'm 20, have no idea what camp colors are, and I'm really getting excited!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/07/03 01:16 AM
my camp's colors are red and white I think.. and my old camp's colors were yellow and blue.

I's like to share that I've had the camp song "hooka tooka" in my head allllllll day!! Does that happen to anyone else? you get a camp song in your head and find yourself singing it in public?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/07/03 02:17 AM
yeah i get camp songs stuck in my head and then just start singing to myself when i am walking down the street or in the shower, or just about anywhere else.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/07/03 03:49 AM
Oh my friends hate when I start singing camp songs. I do it everywhere, but I always find I do it most often in the supermarket. I'm a weirdo in the supermarket, and I don't know why lol.

I'm happy though because I got my friends to start singing the "Wee wee" song (one of those forbidden songs )
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/07/03 05:25 AM
Well, I'm happy to say that I'M AT CAMP!!! It is a 10 month dream come true. The mosquitoes are horid (I'm getting eaten alive as I type!), but I'm loving every minute of it.

As it is 12:30am, I don't think I will be the person who gets #400 because I have to go to bed.

I hope you all have a good summer and I'll check in from time to time.

By the end of the summer...500?

helping the cause b/c I am bored...it's 2AM here & for some reason I just can't sleep...ok so to keep this post alive here is a question:

What is the first thing you are going to do when you get to camp??

~Courtney
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/07/03 07:06 AM
Ok...to answer my own question...

I am going to go run into the lake and do a lap...no not really. I think I will be boring and just go straight to my cabin (i am a first year so i really don't know what else to say). If there is anything better than being a nerd & heading straight to a bunk let me know by all means

~Courtney
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/07/03 12:22 PM
I'll be heading to my cabin and claiming my bunk. I live in a cabin with all the other JC's, and I really want a bottom bunk! I'll be arriving fairly early- like 11:00 when we're supposed to be there by 1 lol! Then I'll be unpacking and setting up my area! I can not wait to get there. I was there for the past 2 days for staff orientation, wow- what a blast! I learned how to do all the activities, it was so much fun! Camp starts this Sunday- I wish I was going to be there! But sad thing- only 30 girls will be campers the first week, we normally have at least 150!!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/07/03 01:37 PM
I will be getting all my stuff out and bringing it to my cabin and setting up my area. Then i'll probably just chill out and talk to my co-counselor, whoever that may be, and wait for the dinner bell to ring at 5pm. I will probably get up there around 3pm so i have time to unpack and stuff before dinner at 5pm.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/07/03 01:49 PM
i'll be going to my cabin throwing my stuff wherever and then going to find where everyone is. Because of my graduation i have to go up a day late. i'm really scared about that because everyone will be there the day before and will all know each other and i'll have to try and fit in. Has anyone else had expierience with being new and having to come up a day late?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/08/03 06:33 PM
ill unpack then find people
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/08/03 06:50 PM
I will find everyone and then take my stuff to the unit we will be using for the week, we stay together as a staff for the first week, sometimes just half the week.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/08/03 09:12 PM
the first thing I do when I get to camp... hug people I haven't seen since the summer before! Than I throw my stuff in the cabin.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/09/03 12:30 PM
new question to keep the post going. i thought of this from the backpack post. Imagine that you are flying to camp on a plane which says that you only have room for one item. not a bag of items, just one thing. You have the colthes you are wearing and that's it. What would that one thing be that you would bring? Remember it must be one item and the airplane doesn't have alot of room so it can't be too big. Mine would be a camera that i had taken pictures of people at home with that were still on the flim. That way i could develpo the pictures when i got there and still have a camera to caputure all the new memories. I couldn't think of anything else that i wouldn't be able to find when i got to camp or that really mattered
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/09/03 12:35 PM
Seeing as you can find most things once you get to camp some time or another... I would have to say my camp journal. It's a journal I just write in during the summers while I'm at camp. I reread it, and it reminds me how much I've changed as a person throughout my camping experience. I don't think I could survive without my journal. It gives me time to myself, to vent and just be me- and to relieve my frusterations- without getting mad at anyone. I can't wait to go to camp now!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/09/03 05:03 PM
I would have to say my wallet, because I'm gonna have to buy a lot of things when I get there....
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/09/03 10:42 PM
i'm 21, i'm a co-director for a ymca teen camp, and one of my counselor's favorite words is poop. just hearing it gets him laughing for the longest time!

My last day at my job on campus is Tuesday. I leave on Friday...so for those 2 days in between I will just relax. Probably hang out at my bf's pool. On Thursday I have to have a cavity(sp?) filled...it's my first one
I just can't wait for Friday to come...soooo excited!!

6 days left, not counting the rest of today.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/15/03 09:31 PM
26 days not counting the rest of today. I'll be around the boards until July 8th. I arrive at camp on July 13th. Until I leave I've got to finish the Scarlet Letter, Read Harry Potter V, and read Up From Slavery- and probably finish the second sisterhood of the traveling pants tomorrow or Tuesday. I need to write an essay on The Scarlet Letter and do a packet of questions. Not to mention get about 20 hours worth of driving in. I'm going to be BUSY! And my couzin is getting married the Saturday before I leave... and her shower is on the wednesday before then- so I'll be out of town for all of that. I love the summer- lol, even if I've got tons to do! I can't forget running 3-5 miles every day!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/15/03 09:53 PM
I am still here until wednesday(3 more days, not counting today). I am packing, making sure i have everything i need, i have to register for fall classes before i go, and just relaxing when i can. I cant wait to leave!!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/16/03 12:40 AM
I leave a week from Monday to go stay the night at my grandparents and then fly out really early Tuesday morning. (My grandparents live a lot closer to the airport than we do.) Between now and then, I need to finish marking clothes, pack, and go out and get what I need. I'm waiting until next weekend for the supply trip so I can pick up my copy of Harry Potter! Also, I'm helping with some room painting and stuff like that, so I at least have some to do.

this week I have 6 finals to take, and then when school gets out (the 23rd) I'm going to go work for my friends dad for a couple weeks, then look at colleges and such. I can't wait until I get to spend my 2 weeks at camp in august I miss iiiiiittttt!!

HEYHEYHEY, we alre4ady have a thread goin' for camp count down, c'mon now peeps!!! Here, I have a riddle for y'all... (course, there's a thread for riddles, too, but that's not the point):

A RIDDLE THAT'LL KILL YOUR BRAIN
This is going to make you so MAD! There are three words in the English language that end in "gry". ONE is angry and the other is hungry. EveryONE knows what the third ONE means and what it stands for. EveryONE uses them everyday, and if you listened very carefully, I've given you the third word. What is it? _______gry?

lol, have fun guys... and just for the record, I dont' know the answer, tho i bet if i thought about it i could figure it out...
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/16/03 03:55 AM
haha i definitely can't think about the riddle right now- but i'll be around until next thursday, camp starts next friday. i leave home to spend a week with my family this friday though, i'm so excited!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/16/03 01:48 PM
Alrighty- so I solved the riddle. DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER!

The third word is language. The statement says there are 3 words in The English Language. The third word is Language which we use every day. The first word is the and the second word is English.

And, there are 5 words that end in gry"
Angry
Hungry
Puggry
mawgry
aggry

Use that riddle on your campers and they'll be thinking about it FOREVER! haha! :-D Good riddle though, it took me a while to figure it out... and then I had to know the other gry words once I did .
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/17/03 03:05 AM
The wording on that version had me totally confused...to clear some people up, here's the version I've heard...
"Think of words ending in 'gry'. Angry and hungry are two of them. There are only three words in the English language. What is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have listened carefully, I have already told you what it is."
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/17/03 01:15 PM
I used the version volleygrl19 had mentioned because the wording had confused me too. I guess I should have mentioned that- lol! Anyways- it's still a pretty tricky riddle.

hey i'm leaving on july 19. hey guys, or anyone else who is stil here. okay i 'm leaving for camp on july 19-29, then comming back home and going to L.A. on July31-August 8, going back home and going to camp again on August 9-23. Should i leave my luggage at camp then go home and pack another bag to L.A. instead? or should i just bring the bag with me the entire time.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 06/17/03 07:31 PM
I'd leave the luggage at camp. It just seems to me you probably have more stuff for camp in your luggage than is worth dragging to LA with you. I know that I would.

Maybe we should try to keep this thing going till next camp season...So i'll start w/ a question. Has anyone ever heard of the milk song? Maybe it is just a weird, annoying thing that my camp does.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 10/19/03 07:19 PM
I haven't heard the song but I am all for keeping this thing going!

I havent ever heard of the milk song, how does it go?? I also think we should keep this going until next summer.

I knew it. My camp is just crazy and has crazy songs that are annoying. I am glad that i am not the only one who wants to keep this thing going.

New question: What do you think is the one aspect of your personality that fits the sterotype of a camp counselor/ camp person?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 10/20/03 06:22 PM
Wait a second! You can't switch topics until you tells us the milk song! I think we all have some crazy annoying songs, but that is part of what makes camp awesome!

[QUOTE]Originally posted by camper4ever:

Does the milk song sort of spell out the word milk? Like:
Give me a little m, little m;
give me a big M, big M;
Give me a little i; little i
etc...
Then there is some sort of chorus

If so - I have heard it and some of my friends have sung it to me (I'm not sure where they worked, but they sang it to me over and over).
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 10/20/03 10:13 PM
the one aspect that makes me a camp person, hmmm thats tough maybe the fact that i am crazy, or a big kid, or just that i love having that positive impact with kids. I think there's no way to pick just one aspect of my personality that makes me love camp because every part of me loves it and i find just doing your best and working hard makes you a good counselor. I am so happy at the end of a session when the kids give you that smile and say see you next year, it makes it all worth while, the magic of camp

One aspect of my personality that makes me a camp person would have to be that i'm kid-friendly! Kids always seem to love how crazy and goofy i can be and i kind of like that about myself too. I have to let that side out every now and then cause if i didn't, i would explode. There's so much more that makes me a camp person but if i had to pick just one, that would be it.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 10/20/03 11:16 PM
Yup jj, i think we are talking about the same one. Maybe later i'll post all of the song but i don't feel that well right now, so i am going to hold off on that.

I'm 26, but just a big kid (around 300lbs)!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 10/24/03 03:24 AM
I think what makes me a camp person is that I'm super enthusiastic and get really excited about whatever is going on. Takes the piss out of my non-camp friends, though...

Today March 10th is my b-day and I am 19 years old. Every one wish me a happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My hobbies when not at camp so I don't go crazy: I love dance. Even thought I work at a GS day camp in the summer I just don't have the energy to take dance classes in the evenings. Sept-June I take tap,ballet/pointe, clog with the 4-H. I also like graphic arts do the church newsletter. I took quite a few pictures of camp last summer near the end when I got digital, this summer it is going to be part of my job!!! Can't wait!!!!!! For now just pray that I get through remedial math course I am taking this semester.

My favorite activity is a toss up between teaching golf and having bunk time with my girls.

Good call on the disc golf man. We are putting a permenent course in at our camp this summer...along with one that changes each summer...its gonna rock.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 03/12/04 01:32 AM
I love all evening programs that involve running around- specifically Capture the Flag. Our camp has gotten really into it the past few years- it's just really fun. It's not unusual to see a counselor leading a pack of 20 campers on a "raid" to the other side- only to all have to go to jail... it's times like those that really make the night great....

Going to jail in our games is a really fun activity where everyone sings songs, dances, yells funny things, do gymnastic flips, heck, we've even had counselors sumo-wrestle and compete in "ice-skating" contests!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 03/12/04 04:55 AM
hmmm favorite activity...that would be either just chilling in the bunk (which we hardly ever actually get to do, except at night) tennis, and just about any evening activity and special event day, including color war.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 03/12/04 08:37 PM
How long are you at your can during the summer? What is your job going to be this summer?

i'll be at camp 8 weeks (1 week of orientation, 7 weeks of camp) and i'm a counselor w/a bunk of 5th or 6th graders (hasn't been decided yet) and i work on the tennis courts!

I'm most likely going to be working with the 3rd and 4th graders- which I'm really excited about. I'm also going to work the ropes course some...

"mine, mine mine, mine, mine mine, mine, mine,mine...." -Finding Nemo

"Having a Boo Radley moment, are we?" Said by Joon in Benny & Joon

"FIRE! Look what I have created!!!!" Said by Tom Hanks in Cast Away
I like this one because that is how I feel when trying to start a fire at camp, on an overnight, in the rain, with damp wood.

It's a very very long story, but basically I was left in a bad position financially from an ex, and am hoping to get back on my feet again here.
I was working at the St. Louis Science Center, doing outreach programs and camp programs, but hopefully soon I'll start my new job, developing an outreach program for K-5 through the Acad. of Math and Science in Hartford, CT. I also need a second job. Not sure what yet though... \:\)

I am still recovering from the long drive from St. Louis to CT, by way of VA. But I am here now... still missing camp \:\(

favorite number?? 20.

Favorite color? That's a tough one. I really like a good forest green, but when it comes down to it, I like more shades of blue.

I have a whole set of random questions that I ask everyone... Some of my favorites...
1. Do you wear socks to bed?
2. Did you ever french-roll your jeans? Or wear 2 pairs of socks, with the inner pair folded over the outer pair?
3. If you could re-live one period of your life, what would it be?
4. What's your favorite memory from camp? (usually involving me, but I think camp is a better fit for here!)
5. Let's say you sent someone 6 roses, but when they called to thank you, they also asked why they received 7. What is your response?

4. So many to chose from! My first summer at camp, some of the moments just chillin in the cabin w/ my counselor, any opening day of camp, when I spent a weekend at camp during the summer (no other campers were there), My "date" to a dance with the cutest guy counselor, nights in the bunk when you laugh until you can't breathe, having the cutest little girl look up to me and follow me everywhere during the week she was there this summer, another camper asking me if I was a counselor cause I looked/ acted like a good one!..awww.. I have soo many more...

5. I will have to think about that

Favorite colors~ Blue, some greens, silver

2.)no
3.)age 5 because life was so carefree and simple
4.)seeing the homesick camper happy and hearing them say they want to come back to camp next year, having campers want you as their counselor, everything about camp is great, it's so hard to pick one memory \:\)
5.there's an extra one for good luck :p

4. o wow too many. maybe reading my name as camper chief on a color war paper? or hanging out w/everyone? or waking up in the middle of the night during a HUGE storm when everyone else wakes up too and laughing and all squeezing onto 1 bed...too many.
5. definitely would say the extra was for good luck.

I'll be a wrangler teaching kids western riding.
I'm very almost 20 (just a few more days)
my favorite number is 4
i cant remember any of the other questions in this thread, but i felt the need to chime in.

Well, since Hayfever didn't end with a new question for the next poster I'll make up one...... hmm lets see........

I don't know if this was asked before but:

Which would you/do you prefer:
Night patrol (patroling a area in camp) or Cabin duty( having to stay in your cabin and your co can leave. )
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 03/31/04 07:09 AM
Oooh...that's a tough call because I actually like both. I think I would choose cabin duty...it's always nice to be FORCED to relax, read a book, take a nap, etc... Although, it's also nice to get outside at night in the fresh summer air. Good question.

I think I will stick with cabin duty though. \:\)
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 03/31/04 08:12 AM
Cabin duty, definately. As much as I enjoy night watch, I sometimes need to be forced to chill and catch up on my "quiet time" activites.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 03/31/04 06:02 PM
My favorite is night watch, which we call night patrol at my camp. I have no idea why but I love night patrol. I held the record last summer for the most night patrols because I would do it for other people whne they were going on a night out or day off. I had it 12 times last summer and with every head staff member at least once. I just love it \:\)
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 03/31/04 06:11 PM
I'd pick cabin duty. except I'm often at my program area until 10 at night making sure everything is dealt with before we go down the hill, then need to take a shower before bed. so I dont really get to my unit to stay for the night until almost 11. by that point i'm all about quiet time \:D
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 03/31/04 06:13 PM
ooh and i forgot a new question... hmmm whats the "uniform" at your camp?

mine is moslty tshirt shorts and closed toe and heel shoes with socks that cover your ankles. we started wearing mens a-shirts (slang: wife beaters) instead of t shirts because they're inexpensive and can be decorated for whatever is happening at camp.

1. NO

1.) No, I take them off right when I climb in.
2.) Yes, duh I was a child of the 80's
3.) Well since I am about to graduate from College in June I would say I would like to start the college experience again .... ( well the lifestyle part... not so much the school part!)
4.) To many to mention but probably the huge thunder storm that went all day and my cabin and co's stayed inside all day in our PJS with our sleeping bags on the floor just talking, laughing, telling stories, it was the day when our camp really bonded and came together as a group.
5.) I would say " Well your worth more than 1/2 a dozen, I wanted to show you that you were worth 7/12 of a dozen. \:\) "

My favorite colors are Blue, Green, and Pale Yellow.

My question is what is your favorite team mascot, (College of Professional)?
My first one is kind of obvious for me and where I live THE DUCKS!!!!, and my other fav is the Dolphins.
Because both animals are awsome and can be way more vicious than most would first assume. \:\)

Ironically, my last name is McCormack (which you just mentioned) and I noticed in your profile that you are located in Northwest Wisconsin...and the camp I work at is located in Northwest Wisconsin. Too cool.

If you had to pick one thing to change about your camp, what would it be?

Favorite nonsense word?

Soda or pop?

yeah I don't miss Keyshawn Johnson at all. He didn't want to be on the Bucs in the first place and to think they paid him for sitting on his butt those last few games. Must be nice to be paid to do nothing

My birthday is saturday(April 3), i'll be 22.

The one thing I would change about my camp, some of the food, not all of it but the bad stuff.

Soda all the way

fave nonsense word nanananabooboo, don't know why just makes me smile every time :p

oh and fave camp memory, awards night in the chapel when we are all linking arms and singing the slow, sad songs at the end of the summer, such a beautiful scene, bittersweet end of the summer.

- I'd put in a climbing wall and high ropes course... Granted, the camp would need money first, but if we are talking "in a perfect world..."

- Blarg. It means a lot of things, and is part of the "secret" language my best bud from camp and I use. He and I apparently use a lot of nonsense words or partial phrases that only we can understand... which is why we don't get why no one understands our conversations.

- Soda.

1. I would definitely make the staff lounge nicer. It isn't the greatest, I would get a faster connection for the computers, and for sure new furniture!

2. My favorite nonsense word is Sboob! It's really a long story...but it is a great word. We even named my cabin the Sboobs this summer & our bunk plaque is all cute with Sboob stuff!

3. Definitely POP!

So, the car got stolen over 2 weeks ago, and the police just recovered it. However, we have to pay 166 dollars to get it out of impound now, which is money we don't have. By the time we have it, the impound cost will be more than what the car is worth! Crazed.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 04/07/04 11:45 PM
I took my car to get an estimate today (my ex got in 2 accidents in 1 day)... 2 accidents means 2 claims... 2 claims means 2 deductibles... my deductible is $500. Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

The good news is that UCONN Men and Women are both National Champs... first time a school has won both titles in the same year thankyouverymuch! Go Huskies!!!!!!

I am definitely changing your subject so sorry! So I was grounded for less than a week and there are so many new topics and people everywhere. Crazy stuff. I'm going down to check out Warren Wilson College in North Carolina this week and I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it. I think I asked about it eatlier too when I mentioned how I am looking in Sterling College in VT and Unity College and ME but I dont know. I'm going on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a while too and it made me think of camper! hahaha That could be a sign I need a life. Not sure though.

We had a camper who always had her birthday on the 3rd day of camp. We felt bad for her, cause she didn't get birthday cards or anything and always threw her a big party. we didn't catch on that it wasn't actually her birthday until she attended a different session one year and told us her birthday was on the third day of camp! no one had bothered to question her and look at her file until then. Her birthday was really in March!

Yech...banana boats are NASTY!!! Did you notice that bananas have little buttholes? Bananas disgust me because of that little hole they have at their base.

Would you stop going to camp forever if someone offered you 1 million dollars to do so???
Posted By: Teenster Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/05/04 10:14 PM
I would have to go with smores, but I also really like brown bears (dough boys).

Though the million dollars is temping... I wouldn't take it, if I could go to camp forever.

Oh, and I turn 21 the first day campers come.

YAY! I get to participate. . .

19 until January \:\)

Here's my question:

Which would you rather have to fend off?

Geese or Swans?

(both of which happen to be shear evil at our camp. . . )

~me.
Posted By: Teenster Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/06/04 12:17 AM
I don't think we have geese or swans at my camp, but I would much rather fend off geese. Not really sure why, maybe it was because I ran into some "killer" swans in Stratford, England once...

My some what silly question, would you rather have a storm or really intense heat at camp. I know it is weird... but I would rather have a storm.

-Teenster
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/06/04 12:20 AM
That would depend on where I am. New Hampshire: storm. Nebraska: Heat, because I hate tornados.

Um, let me see, sorry if this is repeat.
Younger campers or older campers?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/06/04 12:41 AM
I think I would rather have heat and then swim to cool off. There isn't as much to do in a storm. Anyways I live in the extreme heat here in California so I guess that's why I would choose that, it's what I am already use to! It gets to about 110F sometimes a little hotter here where I live. ( I hope the mountains I will be in will be a little cooler :crosses fingers:
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/06/04 01:00 AM
younger campers, i love my little ones \:\)

whats worse?
night patrol or lost camper drills(we call the m yellow shirt drills)

i would have to say the yellow shirt drills are worse because they scare all of the counselors to death, we sometimes don't know if a camper may actually be missing in the water.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 05/06/04 08:36 PM
Haha- I don't know what night patrol is. But I'm gonna go with lost camper drills. I was the first one at the lake (besides the water front specialist) after having sprinted quite a distance and had to do A LOT of diving. I don't like searching for bodies, much less in freezing cold water where you can't see!

One weekers or two weekers (if you go to a one week/two week camp)?

Which is better?

Moonlight swim in a pool or in a lake?

I say Lake- 4 sure!

All the lights on the houses around the lake is beautiful.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 11/24/04 01:14 AM
moonlight in a lake, for sure!!! pools are cool to swim in at night, but swimming in a lake in the middle of night is just so peaceful. you feel part of nature, with no seperation between the lake and the sky.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 11/24/04 03:39 AM
I agree moonlight swim in the lake. It's so beautiful out there and you see the moon reflected on the lake and nature is completely around you.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 11/24/04 04:01 AM
Lake is much better.

You guys want snow pfft come to Canada, it was snowing with about 1 foot of snow on the ground on my first day of classes which was the begining of September \:\( then it all melted but snowed lots again in october then it all melted but it snowed a bit like 3 days ago but right now there is only like a light frost on the ground.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: 200 Replies to a Topic? - 01/04/05 10:45 PM
Speaking of the Lake....

September 29th, 2004 my wife and I had a baby boy and we actually named him Lake.

All our camp friends are like..."Cool name!"...non camp friends are like "Blake?"...no it's Lake!

My wife and I like the reference to water and it reminds us of camp. We both love the Lake and now we have our own little boy named Lake.

I would have to pick night swim in a pool. As a lifeguard I have seen too many snakes in the lake to go swim there at night. Atleast in a pool I can see what's around me.

I would have to vote for the pool, only because I have never been in the lake at night. That's something I should try this summer.

It would be really hard for me to swim in my camp's lake at night because it'd be FREEZING, being a mountain lake and all, but it might be fun. I'd have to do some heavy swimming to get warm enough before I could enjoy it. :p

Ha, we get shirts for every little thing so I have at least 20 camp t-shirts! My mom is always trying to take them from me. She just doesn't understand.

I can't get my three year old to go to sleep for his nap. So I'm ignoring him. He tends tire out when I do that. Just thought I'd share.

haha sara yeah we get shirts for everything also, if it's not a shirt it's sweatpants or a sweatshirt.

The shirt thing reminds me of my college... love my college shirts... well, actually, most things camp remind me of my college, and most things my college remind me of camp! \:\)

***Bump!***

Ok, thanks you guys, now i've got "brickhouse" in my head....

to contribute to a very old discussion, i'd rather swim in the pool at night because it's heated and then you know the mist over the water, with the lights off (no bugs)....deer come up to the fence and eat (wildflower meadow around pool)....

:sighs:

My random word? Hmmm, Tic-Tac

uh i'd say pool fo sho! i always go in the lake because i want the kids to go in but it's nasty! I mean our lake does close when the sun goes down cause there are not really any lights by the lake. But pool hands down because it's more fun. Also it's a lot safer, it's easier to see everyone and all most people can touch the bottom at least somewhere. If we're talking in terms of a pool party that's much better for campers. But... if I were to sneak out to go skinnydipping with some friends.. lake-it's just so cliche!

I think I thought about this way too much...

My birthday's usually a couple days after camp ends, but last summer I was gone for a weekend and when I came back my friends surprised me with a cake for my birthday a little bit early. They made it into the shape of a care bear, I was real excited!

What is not a good thing is when your 21st falls on the day campers arrive. That means no time off that day. I stayed up a bit later than I should have the night before, then had to be at breakfast at like 8 or 9, then had to do the whole first day thing....

My 21st birthday at camp was wonderful. It was the day of our AWIT horse show, so we had that, and my mom came to watch and bring presents and brownies, and the other wranglers gave me presents too, then we had a party at the barn afterwards, when the campers were gone.

Actually, that is exactly what happened to me. The night before... at midnight we went out. We didn't have to be on camp until about noon (campers come at 2:00), so we could have a little fun. But, we also went out the next weekend, so that made up for the not being able to celebrate before.

Bump! I hope all are well out there in the camping world. I kind of miss this board. I have a baby these days and don't have the time to kill anymore.

Camp is so much fun!

I had my birthday last year at camp, and it was on a Sunday, when we can't leave, so we went out the night before (and it was an adventure in the dark that envolved walking unknown into a pond). This year though, my birthday's on a monday and it's my 21st so there will be partying!

This year my birthday falls on the last day when all the kids leave and we have our staff festivities. All in all I anticipate having an amazing 21st birthday! \:\)
