haaaate! At least the first night I hate it because a lot of our campers were new this summer and didn't know songs and would not participate well, so it was just the two or three counselors singing. \:\(
By the end of the week, way fun!

Help my choose!
Working at the same camp next year for a tiny pay increase but I know I will love it, or branching out to a new camp for a big pay increase but I might not like it (because it's an entirely different kind of camp)?

a camp in the middle of nowhere or one near a huge shopping area-- a resdiential camp, not a day camp

I`ve seen one at the dump near my camp, and my campers have seen bears before.

Packing for camp, or unpacking?

the sooner, the better. I'm currently placated at the moment because I have spent the past two weeks helping clean and just hanging out at camp for no better reason than my friend and her brother are the groundskeepers. \:D

Writing a history essay on the origins of summer camps, or the origins of scouting, in the usa?

Stormy: I would pick the history of GS in the USA - "Something for the girls" the phrase that lead the foundation of Guiding and girl scouting! Happy Centenary (even though you wont offically start your celebrations for another 2 years!)

Marty: definately if I could!

have the camp provide a staff directory of addresses at the end of the summer or not?

I would say yes-- and I would support giving it to those who had to go home for medical reasons or for reasons like having a sick family member

having a active staff facebook group or not

Having it! My camp's various groups are all pretty dead, and it's sad because there's a lot the alumni can do to help the new staff. Also, for organizing "reunions."

Hiring a staff that is all certified in something (like ropes, archery, lifeguard, small craft...) and have them switch shifts and be in the units equally,
or hiring only a few staff with certifications and having those staff not be in units as often?

I think somewere in the middle - have been at camps were staff were hired for a specfic thing who did want to spend some time in the units and with others who really didnt want to spend time in units - and were very had to work with when they were put in a unit - so maybe giving people with certifications the choice of what they do!

ideally (not necessarily what actually happens) offering certifaction training in the week before pre-camp starts for free or charging for it?

For free. Our staff did certifications at pre-camp (or most of them, mine were done months before). First Aid and CPR are always free, Ropes training was free, but Life guarding was $175 and a vast majority of us said no. Then, later in the summer it was offered again for free, and ten more people get certified!
So free, if the camp putting it on can afford to do it for free/pay for it out of camp budget.

Ropes/Archery training or Lifeguard/Small Craft training?

In the units; next summer I wont be assigned a unit in the day, but I will sleep there to help at night. I don't like it when program staff and certain ad staff remove themselves from the "camp" setting by sleeping somewhere cushy all summer.

Would you rather run the Barn or the Climbing wall/Ropes course?

I love storms, but I hate them at camp. But, I'd still rather have storms than intense heat. I can play in the rain, but I cannot function in the heat.

Perfect Summer days occurring only on your days (full 24hrs) off, or only on weekends while at camp?
