you know you're a camp person when you buy tie-dye duck tape.

You know you're a camp person when you find out someone else got tie-dye duck tape and are now jealous.

thought it was time to bring this thread back! It's been almost a year since we've posted on it!

you know you are a camp person when none of your duct tape is a "standard" silver colour of tape.

Personally, I carry bright blue. ;\)

I've done that crstrdgecutiepie. 4 out of 5 of my art assignments were camp-related. The 5th would have been if I had my camp stuff over at school with me, like my clipboard and such.

I of course do it with every possible assignment, which over the years have been many, though now with most of my assignments being lessons and such it's more difficult.

When the challenge you have in teaching your Brownies a new song isn't that you don't know any songs but rather you know too many and don't know which one to do!

when you want to teach your preschoolers a new song and mnage to find one to fit the theme of the week at least a little every time. (now whether or not the song will work well with 3-4 year olds to teach in a couple minutes to the point that they can sing some of it is a whole other matter)

when you thoroughly enjoy finding/making up alternate versions to songs. I found this one online somewhere

On My Honor - Cookie Song

Chorus:
On my honor I will try
To sell Girl Scout cookies all day and night
We'll sell our cookies until they are gone.
Cause there's many more where they come from.

People don't need to know my name
They'll buy my cookies just the same
For three dollars a box, they get quite a treat
When they open their box to eat.

CHORUS

I've tucked away a box or two,
If you buy our cookies you'll have some to.
If you need samoas then we have some,
And there's plenty more where they came from.

CHORUS

We sell our cookies at the grocery store,
and we even go door to door.
Our Thin Mints, they are really great
So freeze them now before it's too late

CHORUS

We've set a goal that we plan to keep,
To sell fifty boxes before we fall asleep
So buy several boxes so when we're gone,
You can still be munching and singing this song

CHORUS

With our profits we have lots of fun.
We sell and sell nearly a ton.
Were going camping, and horse riding too
and we even get to sleep at the zoo

CHORUS

Our cookie sale lasts only two weeks.
But we have lots of fun with the people we meet.
So buy our cookies before we go.
Cause we won't be back for a year or so.

CHORUS

-- Thanks to Debbie, Totem Council

I have a habit of making the counselors near me laugh by singing the last bit of on my honor like so:

"And we've made a promise to always keep
and to sing day is done before we sleep
we'll be Girl Scouts forever and when we're done
we'll still be trying to sing this song."

Mostly because our staff somehow could never get the order of the song right, if we could even remember all of it.

And sometimes "hmmmmmm hmmmmm we need a metronome" gets whispered/sung because half of staff will sing Linger faster than the other half, and it's terrible.

Anyone else have alternate lyrics?

hahahahahahaha the metronome one is excellent, stormy! And soooooo true with Linger and with a few other songs. Or over the years or even the summer a song will speed up or slow down and then the fast song is now a slow but enthusiastic song.

I have seen a couple "girl scout" versions of Barges that are pretty funny

GIRL SCOUTS
RENDITION
OF BARGES - Out of my tent flap looking in the night,
I can see the campfire's flickering light.
Curlers in their hair and cold cream on their face,
They could help a turtle win a race!
Leader's I would like to go with you,
I would like to see the Boy Scouts too,
Leader's have you treasures in your heart,
Being Girl Scouts means we will never part!

Leader version-
Looking out our tent we can see our Girl Scouts,
Without shoes, they're running all about.
Flashlights shining bright and straight into our eyes,
And they flicker on and off and up to the skies!
Girl Scouts we would like to question you,
Where's your buddy, and where's your whistle too?
Girl Scouts have you treasure's in your tents?
Anything like candy, gum or mints?

Barges- Girl Scout Version- funny
Out of my tent flap looking in the night,
I can see my counselors having a fight.
With curlers in their hair and cold cream on their face,
I can see their panties made of lace.

Counselors; I would like to go with you,
I would like to see your boyfriends too.
Counselors; please don't throw me in the lake.
I don't want to get bitten by a polk-a-dot snake.

Another silly version
Out of my tent flap, looking through the night,
I can see the Guiders, gathered round the light,
Drinking wine and colouring their hair,
And was it me, or did they swear?
Guiders, I would like to stay with you,
I would like to have some privileges too.
Guiders, have you cookies in your hold,
Do you fight with Scouters, brave and bold?
Out of my tent flap, looking through the night,
I can see the Guiders, having a fight,
Somebody throws a pillow through the air,
And there goes someone's underwear.
Guiders, I would like to stay with you,
I would like to have some privileges too.
Guiders, have you cookies in your hold,
Do you fight with Scouters, brave and bold?

well how's that for lots of different versions of Barges!

I know some of my fellow staff made a canoe and an archery version of pile of tin but I don't remember them.

we had one summer that the director would not let us say god to we changed all the gods in different songs to prairie fairy and it stuck.

some of the counselors came up with once a pirate when sailing on an ocean so blue to the same tune as the austrian it was really cute. they even dressed up as pirates.

the girls always come up with there own version of if I was a counselor they each pick a counselor mostly its cute and harmless there have been a few times were the counselor did not come off in a good light. they have also done this with the sixties party song

When you start singing camp songs any time of the year but especially when you start counting down the days until camp.

and when your countdown and other random camp things have you so wired for camp that you dream about it. Heck, when you dream about the first day of staff training... \:\) yup, that was me last night using my new-found knowledge about camp and whatever I didn't know I just used my old camp for apparently.

when you sing camp songs to the babies in the nursery when you're trying to get them to sleep, and when you teach preschoolers other songs, especially motion ones for their motor skill development (that's how you know you are a preschool teacher when you think of gross and fine motor skills when thinking of songs to sing).

when you are in your science class and looking for a way to light the conveniently strike-anywhere match besides the side of the box. Heck, when you know without trying what definitely won't work and what has some potential.

when you compare your school kids to your possible camp kids and what you do the same at your job as you do at camp and what you do different at your job than you do at camp.

when you hear songs and you bust out random dance moves like you do at camp.
