Camp Director

The Girls Leadership Institute summer program is a residential camp for middle and high school girls held at Smith College in Northampton, MA. Unlike traditional girls’ leadership programs, which teach girls “external” skills like public speaking or interviewing, GLI specializes in building the internal skills necessary for leadership. GLI teaches the practices of emotional intelligence, assertive self-expression, and healthy relationships to give girls the skills and confidence to live as leaders.

GLI is seeking a Camp Director who will oversee the operations and management of the GLI Summer Camp year round. The Camp Director is oversees operations, personnel management and client relationships.

The summer months are extremely demanding and require hard work, long hours and significant commitment. The Director must work well managing and motivating a team.

The GLI Summer Camp Director joins a team of outstanding professionals dedicated to changing girls’ lives. The position offers an extraordinary opportunity to be immersed in girls’ social and emotional enrichment and development. The Camp Director will:

* Recruit campers; and develop and oversee the relationship between GLI, campers and their families.
* Create and oversee the execution of camp schedules and operational systems, including first and last day of camp
* Recruit, hire, manage and maintain summer camp staff
* Oversee and manage residential life at camp, including trips and weekends
* Ensure maintenance of best practices as established by the American Camping Association
* Design and oversee the annual winter camp reunion
* Develop and teach pre-camp staff training orientation
* Supervise and evaluate the performance of all summer camp staff
* Maintain and review camp records
* Design and oversee the camp crisis plan
* Process all camp registrations and organize accompanying paperwork
* Support summer camp annual fundraising campaign


Qualifications
Candidates must be at least 25 years of age and have at least three years of summer camp or other residential experience, and at least one year of management or administrative work overseeing teachers, counselors or youth service providers. Professionals with a graduate degree in education, counseling, organizational management or a related field experience are preferred.

The ideal candidate will:

* Have experience managing, supporting and leading a team
* Have experience working with and mentoring youth
* Be responsible and self-motivated
* Relate well with girls in grades 6-12
* Ability to supervise staff
* Comfortable with public interactions including public speaking or presentations
* Possess excellent communication skills
* Work well with others as part of a team
* Be comfortable with professional observation and regular feedback
* Possess excellent conflict resolution skills and experience mediating groups
* Approach problems creatively and proactively
* Be passionate about girls’ empowerment and leadership

Salary
TBA depending on experience and years in position. This position is “exempt” from minimum wage and overtime laws.
