The days of a traditional camp that only offers swimming, archery and arts and crafts are nearly gone. These days there's a lot to be said about creative programming. Specialty camps are huge right now. Just look at how many threads there are on this message board about wanting a Harry Potter Camp.

I thought it might be neat to share ideas for new, creative and unique programs. So let's here some great ideas...

DAY CAMPS
*Paintball Camp - we travel to a different paintball field everyday.
*SeaCamp - campers learn the basics of sailing, kayaking, and rowing
*Road Rules - the campers are divided into two teams and we drive them all over the area. They participate in different challenges for points. We video tape the whole week and then edit it. A couple of weeks later each camper get their own DVD.
*SCUBA Camp - Kids take SCUBA lessons every day. The week ends in a boat dive.
*Totally Boards - Campers experience different board activities (skateboarding, skim boarding, windsurfing, wake boarding, surfboarding, etc.)
*Around the World in 5 Days - Each day would campers would experience food, culture, games and traditions of a different continent.

RESIDENT CAMPS
*Secret Agent Camp
*Drama Camp
*Puppet Camp
*Magic Camp
*YES Camp (Youth Emergency Services)- Teen campers would do different activities that would give them a taste of on-the-job-training for emergency professions. These "Workshops" were lead by fireman, policeman, Marines, and Search and Rescue.
*State Camp - This is a travel camp where the campers travel all over the state exploring new places.

Emergency Preparedness camp = Over the course of a session participants would receive training and certifications in CPR and First Aid, Assemble First Aid and Emergency kits, as well as receive training in Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness Survival. Also utilize the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program and other appropriate programs.

I like the idea of the YES (Youth Emergency Services) Camp. Curt, can I borrow your idea?

I think farm camp is something that should be looked into. Many kids no longer spend enough time outside or working with nature. Camp is the place to keep that alive.
Also try film camp. It could run at the same time as a drama camp and the film kids could be in charge of making a movie of the drama kids acting.

Hey! l recently made a few videos that were inspired by Carl Sagan & thought it would be really cool if you checked it out and gave me your thoughts & insights on them. I feel like this could be a great new program for kids/ it would be a great way to teach students about astronomy/cosmology/the Universe. I put music in the videos from Daniel Hope's Spheres album, after I found out that he was inspired by Carl Sagan too. Hope you like them & hope to hear back from you!
