Yes, there is a thread on here already of this game, but I feel like we got so silly and did that one so long we need a new start.
So, for those who don't know, it's a simple game. Go through the alphabet 1 letter at a time and say something related to camp that starts with that letter. Exceptions for nearly impossible ones, but bonus points (like the points on Whose Line is it Anyway, they don't matter!) for those who come up with something legit.

E - eating - what strange (or not so strange) foods camp servers or the kids want to cook during cook outs!

P- pockets- or the things you find in them (especially true at a day care... I've brought home so many little toys)

Y - yellow sunshine - we don't see it often in scotland
Next theme - things you wish you had know before you first worked at camp
A - Ask. I wish I had known my first year that I could ask for help, for ideas, for anything. My ad staff wasn't so great, so we felt like we had to do everything on our own... now I know I can ask for help about anything.
theme - things you wish you had know before you first worked at camp
B-bring cards, books and stuffed animals to share with the campers
C - chocolate in the USA is rubbish compared to over here so bring some with you!
theme - things you wish you had known!
D - Down time, I wish I knew to take my down time and not try to be a "super star." My first summer I wore myself out because I stayed in the unit and didn't take my time off.
- Teenster
E - eating I know it sounds basic but most of us don't really eat properly these days so learning to eat 3 meals a day at camp is hard but essential!
theme - things you wish you had know before you went to camp
F- fun times are included in the whole summer, including staff training, but expect that staff training will be long and probably overwhelming. It will get better, but you have to go with it during training week. They have so little time to teach so many things that we need to know. Let them (aka don't ambush the directors in front of the whole group and make it seem as if the whole staff agrees that apparently we can't handle even training week...). I was still in the mode of camp=vacation but does not equal job and I was sooo loving precamp for the first time, so I knew what to expect in the job at this camp and staff training was all just fun for me so I loved it.
wow, must be my evening for ranting...
theme- things you wish you had known before you went to camp
G- Games! Games to fill time, games to teach outdoor basics, games to be silly with, games for inside ( rain or turtle time). I never seem to know enough games!
H - Head, Hands, Heart, and Health. I hate to go all 4H on here, but I have found that the ideas in the 4H pledge are a good model of a camp counselor to keep in mind:
"...my HEAD to clearer thinking
my HEART to greater loyalty
my HANDS to larger service
and my HEALTH to better living..."
If you're always thinking before acting, thinking about the impact of your words and actions, you should be an excellent camp staffer. Your heart to be compassionate to children when they need you, and to your fellow staffers too. Yours hands to help guide, "greater service" by helping others even when not asked to. And health needs to be a priority for you just as much as campers! Please take care of yourselves!
theme- things you wish you had known before you went to camp
I- "I am not in the mood right now" means that you should do what you can/need to get in the mood, whether it is talking to someone, putting it aside for later, or whatever because you need to be there for the campers for the whole week, so taking care of that so you can be fully there the rest of the week, even if it means a few minutes of destress as long as the kids are safe and entertained.
Yeah, can ya tell I'm having a sucky day? At least I'm not working. Actually, right now I'd probably love to be at work because it is at a preschool/daycare so the kids would destress me.
J - Jumping in the lake fully clothed is a perfectly acceptable thing to do! It doesn't matter what your fellow counsellors think it is acceptable!
theme: things you wish you had known!
K-kicking up your feet is about all you will want to do on your 2 hour TO so you won't have time to spend the little money you make, which means that you make about as much as someone working part-time regualar jobs but you spend less!
L - learning to light one match fires is fun even if it is dangerous - but also that the kids love learning to light fires
theme - things you wish you had know before you arrived
M - meal time at camp is not the time for yourself, to take time off, or to worry about your diet. In fact, eat up, because you need all the energy from food that you can get.
N- nothing gets by the kids- I was going to wear a forrest gump shirt my parents brought me from San Fransico or wherever, which I didn't think was bad, but the kids saw it and said ":O Your shirt says stupid on it." Yup, never wore that shirt at camp with the kids there after that. The quote is "stupid is as stupid does"
O - opening mail from home infront of the campers isn't a great idea - especially if you are struggling with homesickness or kids who are upset cos they haven't got mail
theme - things you wsh you had known
One of my camps had campers and staff receive mail at meal times in front of everyone. Which was awesome for people who got mail, and disappointing for those who didn't. Thankfully, they did away with that.
P - Parents, if you meet them, will ask you loads of questions. Sometimes their requests are out of your control. If you don't know how to answer them, be courteous to them and direct them to someone who does.
Sometimes they might get snappy, wonder why you don't know or argue with you, but it's best to just direct them to someone who can help or calmly escort the parent to find someone who can resolve any problems.
theme - things you wsh you had known
Q- quiet time is sacred. Do not interrupt quiet time/rest hour on a day when I need it.
Although actually, the kids are more likely to get away with something like whispering on a day when I really need rest hour because as long as they are whispering, I can read but if I have to stop to keep telling them to be quiet or they keep asking me when they can talk, I can't and then i don't get the rejuvination I need. But on other days, oh man, it's quiet time for them because they need it too and that's my job to make sure they get it, but to "let them get away with talking" or "give them a reward" sometimes just has to happen. Like if you know your group will not last through the silent time let them think that you are giving them something really cool that you like more than they do! hehe
wow, my posts are definitely odd today. Oh well.
R - reading material for while you are stuck outside the shower house is a good idea as long as it is camp appropriate!
theme - things you wish you had known!
S- snacks are awesome, but racoons are sneaky, smart little guys and they will find it and it is creepy to know that they have been in your tent. Whatever snacks you buy, make sure to consume on TO or they must be in an AIR-TIGHT container and/or house that doesn't get coons and critters.
theme- things you wish you had known
T - Things you really think you will need but wont actually and also things that you wont think you will need but will actually need
theme - things you wish you had known!
U-underwear and socks are really the only things that can ONLY be worn ONCE (unless you have higher standards, which is fine) so understand that you will likely choose other activities on your TO than being chained to a washer and dryer so bring fewer pants and more undies and socks!
theme- things you wish you had known
V - varnish (for wood) isn't called varnish in the USA - this causes some confusion!
theme - things you wish you had know
W- white socks will no longer be white the instant they come on to camp property (even clean in your luggage)! Ok, nothing that enters white ever leaves white.
I have heard it called varnish, but I don't know what it means...
So I've heard the words wood varnish, but don't know what it is.
things you wish you knew
X - be prepared to Xplain unusual terms you might use
things you wish you had known
Y- You will learn to call people really odd things, even in public places because it just feels weird to use real names, if you even know them.
Y-You will find yourself doing and saying things that 3 months ago you wouldn't have thought possible, or if you did, you would have been adamant that you would not, could not do those things.
theme- things you wish you had known
Z - Zink the Zebra is a fun program to use with the girls
or Z - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's are essential if you want to stay healthy at camp!
New theme: the weirdest thing someone has brought to camp - or you can imagine someone bringing to camp!
A- a lot of romance novels
B - bagpipes( i worked with a girl who nearly brought hers!)
theme - weird things brought to camp
C- carmel apples
ok, I couldn't think of anything for the last couple days so now I'm just putting up something that would be weird to bring to camp so the game can continue.
theme- weird things brought to camp
D - dancing cactus - one of our counsellors did actually bring one with her - strangely enough her camp name was cactus!
theme - weird things brought to camp!
E- every craft supply they own (ok so I come pretty close to that, and then only end up using some of it)
I have a friend who has a dancing coke can.
I had a friend who did practically that too!
F - fishing gear!
theme - random things to take to camp!
G- Gargantuan amounts of gorrilla-themed items
I don't actually know someone who did this ,but it would be weird, and only a little less so if their name was Gorrilla
theme- random things to take to camp,
H - a harp (unless you are at music!)
theme - random things to bring to camp!
I- icthus magnet(more commonly known as a Jesus fish I believe)
even if you are a music person, a harp would just be difficult to transport (or at least a great harp would be)
and yes, I do have an icthus magnet that says Believe inside it and it's all sparkly, but bringing the magnet to camp would be random.
theme-weird things to bring to camp
J - jackle
theme - weird things to bring to camp
K- king outfit
theme- weird things to bring to camp
L - a Llama
theme - weird things to bring to camp!

)
S- starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam, butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham
Sorry Smudge!
theme- weird things to bring to camp
I wanted to say Straighteners - cos it always amuses me that people take them thinking they will have time to do their hair every morning and most of them give up after the first couple of weeks!
T - Tazer - I didn't actually work at a camp where a LTG (cit) was taken out the ltg program and put onto maintainance team cos he brought one with him
theme - random/weird things to bring to camp
nice, yeah but the straighteners that others brought really helped me out on last Friday of the summer when my co's straightened my hair and did my makeup. It was fun, but yeah, for every day use it's not so practical. But if you've got room to bring it, I guess if you want to spend your TO using it, go for it...
U- Uggs. Right, because they'll stay clean...
theme- weird things to bring to camp
V - vaccuum cleaner
why would you need one
theme - weird things to bring to camp
W- water wings was the first thing that came to my mind, but those could actually be useful. Still random though.
theme- weird things to bring to camp
X - Xbox - I did have a friend who brough her wii - but i didn't have W
theme - weird stuff brought to camp
Y- your jewelry
theme- weird things to bring to camp
Z - zero energy (ok so not an actual item - but Z is hard!)
The next theme will be:
games you can play at camp - general ones - watch out for things like ice breakers in future themes!
A- a what?! (I looked and there's a description of it on ultimate camp resource website) It's an excellent game although we tend to just make up names for the objects instead of using wit and watt like the site says, so we pass around a pencil and call it an elephant.
theme- group games (other types like ice breakers and initiatives to come later)
B - battleships - sooooooooo much fun in canoes
theme: group games (other types like ice breakers and initiatives to come later)
C- Car Lot (like sharks and minnows but with the sharks calling out a car and the people who picked it running)
C- Chuck the Chicken (for Smudge!)
Theme- group games
D - drip drip drop or duck duck goose
theme - group games
E- EVERYBODY'S IT!!!!!! I love that game!!! Ok, so I didn't need caps to show that, but hey!

theme- group games (stay tuned for ice breakers, initiatives, etc so just group games for now)
R - red rover - fun game but banned at least at guides and brownies
theme - group games
ick, I hate Red Rover! But I feel that it's because of the banned-ness of it because I've had 2 or 3 friends get seriously hurt while playing it in 5th grade at recess before it was banned, but before that I liked it.
S- screaming toes! Excellent 5 minute filler for outside times when you don't need to be quiet (chilling next to the climbing wall waiting your turn is a bad time to play this game!) and it's really easy to explain, like 30 seconds or less.
theme- group games
T - Tag (was thinking of buddy tag particularly!)
I am not a fan of Red Rover however it was the only R I could think of!
U- Ultimate Keep Away
Yeah, I know what you mean, Smudge!
theme- general group games
V-volcanos and craters
I know a safe version of red rover the kids love it they still get to play red rover and they stay safe win win!
and you leave us with the cliffhanger on that one c-dog?! Thanks!
hehe what is it?
W- What time is it, Mr. Fox?
(you know you work in a daycare/preschool when the first thing that pops into your head for a W word is Wow Wow Wubsy)
theme- group games
For the safe version of red rover you stand in two lines and call a person over like the regular version but instead of linking arms you put your hands out in front of you and the person that got called over comes over and walking up and down the line and slaps one persons hands then runs back to there side the person that had there hands slapped chases the person that was called over if the chaser catches them they both go back to the side that called and if they do not get caught both people stay on the slappers side.
X - X-marks the spot - aka a treasure hunt

theme- skits
I- Invisible bench, and is it time yet must be mentioned here. They are classics!
theme- skits

theme- skits
M- Mad reporter is what UCR calls it though I tended to just call it the reporter skit or the bridge skit.

theme- skits
P - pie in the face (thanks UCR)

Are warm fuzzies the yarn ball type things? I think we used to make them in high school for leadership camp. You'd take out a piece from your yarn ball, tie it to the necklace bit on someone's else's, and give them a complement. I bet I still have mine!
Z- Ziploc bags, which are used for many crafts, like exploding paint!
New theme - places to visit during session breaks or after camp (or even during camp!)

Is Forks within driving distance of camp? How do the campers handle that? lol
G - Great Lakes. LOVE going "Up North" on breaks, or taking international staff to South Haven/Lake Michigan.
theme - places to visit during breaks or after camp
This was/is on the weekend when we have no campers. I know a goup of the staff at my old camp went there but I don't know if they stayed near there or if it was just a day trip. I know my old camp has only 24 hours off from the end of the Saturday staff meeting until they need to be ready and at the Sunday staff meeting so it couldn't have taken too long.
H- Hot Springs, I guess
theme- places to visit on breaks/after camp
I - IHOP. Judge me all you will, but when I leave camp, I want some non-camp food.
theme- places to visit on breaks/after camp

L - Labour day weekend Pow-wow - been twice with my friend who is Abernaki and it is so much fun
Melody I am the same when I get off camp!
Theme - places to visit on breaks or after camp
M - Meijer. Do you have a Meijer? Have you heard of them? 24 hours a day 7 days a week, grocery, housewares, toys, pretty much everything. If you cant think of ANYTHING else to do but need to be off camp, have no money (or have money and dont care what you spend it on), need toiletries or snacks? Meijer. Not even joking, Melody will attest to it.
Theme - places to visit on breaks or after camp
N - Niagara Falls
It's true about Meijer. Even just walking around and looking at things is fun. There are no Meijers in the southern part of the country, though, so no fear if you have no idea what Stormy and I are talking about. I have heard it compared to an Aldi before, though I've never actually been in one.
Theme - places to visit on breaks or after camp
O - Ontario. For those staff members who are not yet 21, have a break *after* camp ends, and go to camp in or around Michigan.
There are no Meijers where I have moved Melody. I'm seriously missing some Meijer runs.
Theme - places to visit on breaks or after camp
P-Panera good food and free wi-fi always a good place for a break
I have never heard of Meijers before but Aldis is just a really cheep grocery store we alway go on walmart or target runs or if you are looking for cheep toys the dollar store always an entertaining time!
Panera put a pickle with my peanut butter sandwich after looking at me like I was odd cos all i ordered was butter and peanut butter - the pickle kind of ruined it
Q - quick trips to Dunkin' Donuts during a 2 hour break
theme - places to go during breaks from camp or after camp
R - ROAD TRIP! Who cares, get in the car and find something new!
Theme - places to visit on breaks or after camp

T- Target!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never heard of Meijers or Aldis.
theme- places to visit on breaks or after camp
U - Under the sea!
I don't know. U was actually hard for me, as the only things I could think of were Utica (a place in Michigan), United Airways, and the University of whatever your state is.
I guess if it's after camp and you're international, you could visit the U.S.? Or if you are American, you could visit the U.K.?
Giggles: It's a superstore, really. I have yet to need something that isn't sold there.
Stormy: That just means that you have to come visit!
Theme: Places to visit on breaks or after camp.
V - Virginia, Vermont, Vegas, Victoria's Secret!, [west] Virginia, Virgin Islands... I'm trying!

Me thinks it would be one of those "I'm making it for one of my friends" gifts since you wouldn't be able to be very secretive and it would be easy enough over time to get the beans spilled or have the person you are making it for see it, especially if you work closely together or spend a lot of your free time hanging out.
S - Some inspirational quotes writen out nicely and all decorated etc
Stormy at my last camp we used to have to give a thank you gift for our secret buddy (the person who was giving to us) and both years at that camp I made a quilt! Just a small 9 square one - in green and white but it was awesome - one year i got all the staff to sign it - and the second year I divided it down further and put quotes from the most popular camp songs of the summer - both times usuing sharpie or fabric pens!

B - "Bridging." I read that crossing a certain bridge at my old camp used to be a big accomplishment as a camper, because it lead to the back half of camp where only older girls stayed, and it's a tricky bridge (narrow, over water, formerly made of rope). I wish it would have stayed a major accomplishment of a camper, because last summer I think I walked just about every mom-and-me across it and I think it lost it's value.
Theme - Traditions (or things that you would like to be made traditions)
C- Campfire. For some camps, it's less frequent than others and often contains many other traditions within it. Simply put, it's the time-honored symbolic image of camp!

M- meals that you can eat where you know it is low in calories (I vote camps have light Ranch or other light versions when it wouldn't be more expensive) because the food totally cancels my exercise... grr
I do agree that while you'd think that the woods would be quiet, nope! Sound carries, or as we like to sing at my last camp "you can hear the laughter ringing, and a little thread of song" but yeah, I do kinda enjoy the weekends and rest times when the camp is quiet, especially if I get to get out on my own and chill
N - nipping to the store when it pops into your mind that you need something!
theme - things you miss at camp!
O-Own space on occasion, I love living at camp with other people but there are times (only a few usually) where it would be nice to have my own space by myself, particularly when it's been a rough day or I'm stressed and exhausted which only happens about 2x during the summer.

If it's going to rain all week start early- make invites, invite either other groups in the unit or the whole camp, make decorations, perhaps make a playlist on an iPod (though that may fall to staff only if you've got a lot of songs that would be NCA), and then have the DP one night. Perhaps req for snack that can be eaten at the party like trail mix or chex mix. My last camp had us make our own chex mix so we would req for items that could go in it so just req for baggies of separate items and then little cups or bowls or baggies for everyone to pick and choose. Ooo, I think I may have to post this to the RDA thread so that if we ever look at that thread for ideas it's there instead of just buried in the abc thread somewhere
And if it's not planned ahead and it starts to rain, just have an improomptu one. I have a playlist on my ipod called "camp" so I can play those songs at camp or for Dance Parties!
